Dear Parents/Carers

September 2018

A warm welcome to you all at the start of a “new year“ with the Diana Griffiths School of Dance. I hope you have all had a lovely summer break and the children are refreshed for the start of term.

Well done to everyone who took part in “A Celebration of Dance…The Snow Goose” on June 30th at Concord College. The children performed beautifully and their behaviour throughout the day was wonderful. We raised a brilliant £1100 for Hope House, thanks to the children’s hard work, my wonderful and inspired teachers, Flo, all the backstage and front of house helpers, and as always your tremendous support.

Thank you for supporting our end of term prize giving and cheque presentation to Hope House. This event is becoming really popular - thank you for attending at such a busy time of the year! Commendations were awarded to every member who took part at Concord. In addition there were special awards for Improvement (Grace Martin, Aisha Blundell-White and Amy Harvey), Dance (Christopher Davies and Helena Crump), Drama (Jess Halliday)and Commitment (Charlotte Davies).

Our Summer Theatre School at Condover Primary School was a great success. Five days of dance, drama, musical theatre and creativity expertly led by Ruth Seager and Vikki Leech and culminating in a “sharing” of some excellent work which was greatly enjoyed! I know Vikki and Ruth are keen to offer another similar event next summer, so keep an eye open for news on our website and on our Facebook page.

On July 28th Annabel and Jess took part in the Anapoli International Festival of Dance at The Dora Strato garden theatre which is situated very near the ancient acropolis in Athens. They performed our dance ‘Dedication’ beautifully and were warmly received. What a wonderful experience…and what fitting surroundings for the Classical Greek Dance technique!

I hope that this will become a regular feature on our calendar and I look forward to accompanying more of our senior members of the Diana Griffiths School of Dance to Athens next year!

There are some changes to our teaching staff this term. As you are aware Sarah Hickman is no longer teaching Drama and LAMDA on Saturday mornings. I am pleased to inform you that Mr Hugh Jones is to continue to teaching these classes.

Sadly Anna Belyavin will not be continuing this term on Saturday mornings, due to her busy work commitments. I am sure you will all join me in thanking Anna for her inspired teaching and professionalism, and wish her well in her future projects.

However, I am pleased to say that Anna is to continue an Tuesday evenings, when she will be starting a new Contemporary class at Dudgeley Hall (12-16 years), Boys Ignite (7 years and upwards) and a Street class (9-12 yrs) at Leebotwood Village Hall (please see Tuesday’s timetable).

I am working hard to find a permanent teacher for our younger street dancers and hip hop. I sincerely hope to resolve this as soon as possible; in the interim however, Sarah Hickman has kindly agreed to step in and teach the Street I dancers at Dorrington.

I would really appreciate your feedback about these proposals and I apologise if the changes present any inconvenience.

As always do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions concerning your child / children … your feedback is important to me. Thank you for your continuing support and I look forward to an enjoyable and successful Autumn Term.

Yours Sincerely,

Cathy Griffiths
