Category: NEWSLETTERS
Posted: 2019-04-26 12:58

Dear Parents / Carers,

I hope you all had a happy Easter break and the children are feeling rested and ready for a busy Summer Term ahead.

Please note that on Saturday May 11th all classes will take place at Condover Primary School.

Our 11th annual “Celebration of Dance” will take place on Saturday June 29th at Concord College and this year all proceeds will be going to the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund. Doors will open at 5.00 pm for drinks and a raffle and the performance will start at 6.00 pm. The raffle is an excellent fundraiser— please may I ask if any of you know of any local businesses who would be prepared to offer a raffle prize in return advertising in our programme?

Please may I have all consent forms as soon as possible? There are always hard copies available in the hall, so please help yourself. To enable continuity, and a confident and well rehearsed performance, I must stress that regular attendance at classes is vital. If you are aware that your child/children will be absent for more than two weeks please contact me.

On Saturdays June 15th and June 22nd dress rehearsals are being held at Dorrington Village Hall. Would all children please be available to stay throughout the morning on these dates.

Please note that Jenny Edmiston will be taking photographs on Saturday June 15th at 12:00pm in the meeting room.

Further Concord details will follow.

Summer School is being held at Condover Primary School from Monday July 29th to Friday August 2nd inclusive, as usual it will be led by Ruth Seager and Vikki Leech. Please ensure all deposits (£15 per child) accompany completed registration forms to confirm places on the course which I am sure will be really enjoyable. All forms are to be returned to me by half term.

Prize giving, refreshments and presentations will be held at Dorrington Village Hall on Saturday July 6th at 10:00.

Please note that there are two new classes starting in Monkmoor, Shrewsbury, on Wednesday and Thursday evenings – contact me for further details.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions concerning your child / children. Remember also to check our official Facebook page for updated information and news throughout the term. Please feel free to leave your comments if you wish! Tunics of all colours are always available, as are hoodies, T-shirts and bags.

I look forward to what should be an exciting Summer Term. Thank you for your continuing loyalty and support.

Dear Parents/Carers

A very happy New Year to you all! I hope you have all had a lovely and peaceful Christmas. It was good to see so many of you at our Christmas Speech Recital. It was a lovely occasion and the students gave a wonderful performance. My thanks go to Hugh Jones for his hard work in producing the “Christmas Drama” and for preparing the students for their LAMDA examinations. Thanks also to Sarah Hickman for her work with the Street Dancers and for producing their lovely Christmas dance. A big thank you too to our “Christmas elves” who helped so much in the kitchen!

The Smethcote Church Christmas carol service on December 16th was a lovely evening. Thank you Jess, Annabel and Helena for dancing so beautifully.

The Dorrington, Dudgeley Hall and Leebotwood timetables remain unchanged this term.

I have been informed that the Main Hall at Dorrington Village Hall will be closed for planned floor maintenance between Monday January 28th and Tuesday February 5th 2019. This means that classes on Saturday February 2nd will take place at an alternative venue (I will keep you updated). Dance Expressions classes on Mondays January 28th and February 4th will unfortunately be cancelled.

Between Tuesday February 26th and Thursday March 7th Emma Alston and I will be exhibiting Ruby Ginner’s (the founder of Classical Greek Dance) handwritten books and costumes at Church Stretton Library. Then on Sunday March 3rd there will be a Classical Greek Dance workshop at the Sylvester Horne Institute, followed by tea and coffee and a chat. All are welcome to attend these special events!

As always please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions concerning your child/children. Thank you for your continuing support and I look forward to seeing you all again on January 12th, and for an enjoyable and successful Spring Term.

Yours Sincerely,

Cathy Griffiths

NEWSLETTER FOR AUTUMN TERM 2018

Dear Parents/Carers

September 2018

A warm welcome to you all at the start of a “new year“ with the Diana Griffiths School of Dance. I hope you have all had a lovely summer break and the children are refreshed for the start of term.

Well done to everyone who took part in “A Celebration of Dance…The Snow Goose” on June 30th at Concord College. The children performed beautifully and their behaviour throughout the day was wonderful. We raised a brilliant £1100 for Hope House, thanks to the children’s hard work, my wonderful and inspired teachers, Flo, all the backstage and front of house helpers, and as always your tremendous support.

Thank you for supporting our end of term prize giving and cheque presentation to Hope House. This event is becoming really popular - thank you for attending at such a busy time of the year! Commendations were awarded to every member who took part at Concord. In addition there were special awards for Improvement (Grace Martin, Aisha Blundell-White and Amy Harvey), Dance (Christopher Davies and Helena Crump), Drama (Jess Halliday)and Commitment (Charlotte Davies).

Our Summer Theatre School at Condover Primary School was a great success. Five days of dance, drama, musical theatre and creativity expertly led by Ruth Seager and Vikki Leech and culminating in a “sharing” of some excellent work which was greatly enjoyed! I know Vikki and Ruth are keen to offer another similar event next summer, so keep an eye open for news on our website and on our Facebook page.

On July 28th Annabel and Jess took part in the Anapoli International Festival of Dance at The Dora Strato garden theatre which is situated very near the ancient acropolis in Athens. They performed our dance ‘Dedication’ beautifully and were warmly received. What a wonderful experience…and what fitting surroundings for the Classical Greek Dance technique!

I hope that this will become a regular feature on our calendar and I look forward to accompanying more of our senior members of the Diana Griffiths School of Dance to Athens next year!

There are some changes to our teaching staff this term. As you are aware Sarah Hickman is no longer teaching Drama and LAMDA on Saturday mornings. I am pleased to inform you that Mr Hugh Jones is to continue to teaching these classes.

Sadly Anna Belyavin will not be continuing this term on Saturday mornings, due to her busy work commitments. I am sure you will all join me in thanking Anna for her inspired teaching and professionalism, and wish her well in her future projects.

However, I am pleased to say that Anna is to continue an Tuesday evenings, when she will be starting a new Contemporary class at Dudgeley Hall (12-16 years), Boys Ignite (7 years and upwards) and a Street class (9-12 yrs) at Leebotwood Village Hall (please see Tuesday’s timetable).

I am working hard to find a permanent teacher for our younger street dancers and hip hop. I sincerely hope to resolve this as soon as possible; in the interim however, Sarah Hickman has kindly agreed to step in and teach the Street I dancers at Dorrington.

I would really appreciate your feedback about these proposals and I apologise if the changes present any inconvenience.

As always do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions concerning your child / children … your feedback is important to me. Thank you for your continuing support and I look forward to an enjoyable and successful Autumn Term.

Yours Sincerely,

Cathy Griffiths
